Pan-centromere Reveals Widespread Centromere Repositioning of Soybean Genomes
Published:31 Oct.2023    Source:PNAS
Centromeres are crucial for ensuring accurate chromosome segregation in eukaryotic organisms. We identified centromere satellites associated with chromosome 1 of soybean, revealing significant rearrangements and impacting the localization of CENH3.

Comparative analysis shows frequent centromere repositioning across chromosomes, with new centromeres forming near native ones or independently emerging. Hybrid crosses demonstrate significant changes in centromere size and position, highlighting their dynamic nature.

Crucially, our findings emphasize the role of centromere satellites in maintaining stable positions, underscoring their importance in centromere organization.
