Abstract
Rye is a cereal crop belonging to Secale of the family of Gramineae with the Latin name as Secale cereale L., which is a staple ingredient in bread for European people, especially in the middle ages. Compared to wheat and barley, which obtained higher quality genomic data for genome-wide sequencing, genomic sequencing of rye has progressed slowly. Recently, a number of scientific research units such as the Technical University of Munich have used a genome-wide shotgun sequencing method to assemble a full-length 7.9 Gbp winter rye inbred line Lo7 genome and to construct a whole-genome draft sequence with a total length of 2.8 Gbp. Based on the homology of genome draft, this genome assembly predicted 27 784 rye gene models. By resequencing 10 rye inbred lines and a wild rye variety Secale vavilovii, 8 626 622 single nucleotide variants (SNV) were found. Based on these variant markers, the researchers developed a high-density Rye600k genotyping array containing 600 843 markers to characterize the diversity of rye breeding pools and genetic resources.
